Students, Here are the 2 Main Ways to Get an Internship:
1) Internships YOU apply to.
We share opportunities via the JCBM Job and Internships board. You may also find other intern opportunities via the Brenau Career Services web page to visit HandShake or even Brenau University (search for "intern"). Then YOU (the student) must apply for, and win, the position (regardless of which system you use to apply). We are here to help you through the process and increase your odds of success!!! 2) Employers Seeking Students
Employers may sometimes also come to us looking for an intern match, and we share student resumes with them. They then contact students who may be a potential match. Either way, you need a resume, interview preparation, and professional attire! The JCBM can help you with all three of these!!!! Once you have a resume, be sure to upload it to our resume database below to be included in the JCBM's Resume LookBook!!!

You Need a GREAT Resume!
Whether you have no work experience yet, or have several years of work experience, the JCBM is here to help you craft or update a resume that will get you matched with the right role and organization! You also need to be sure the resume you have will pass ATS screening systems.
What is an ATS? (applicant tracking system) and why should you care about having a resume that can pass it?
If you would like to create a new resume using a simple template, then using your tiger.brenau Google account, follow the steps below. Then be sure to upload it below to be included in the JCBM's resume book for employers!
- There are numerous resume templates on the Brenau Career Services web page you can copy into your own Google Drive account. With the template open, follow the steps below;
- Click "File"
- Choose "Make a Copy"
- Name the File using "LastName_FirstName_Resume"

The JCBM at Brenau University understands the importance of professionalism when interviewing for an internship or job. To help students along their career paths, Brenau JCBM offers a complimentary professional clothing closet called Tiger Threads. JCBM Students have FREE access to professional looks with great looking suits in all sizes, and lots of appropriate accessories to polish your look (and students get to keep their items)!! For International JCBM Students
Employment Information for International Students
The United States has strict regulations regarding employment for international students. Rules vary significantly based on your visa type, your program of study, and whether a position is on-campus or off-campus. Always consult with Brenau University's International Student Office before accepting any employment to protect your visa status.
General Limitations
- Students must maintain valid F-1 or M-1 status at all times.
- All authorized employment must be reported to your Designated School Official (DSO).
- For F-1 students working on-campus, employment must not displace U.S. residents.
- Off-campus work generally must be directly related to your field of study.
On-Campus Employment
- F-1 Students: Eligible to work on-campus up to 20 hours per week while school is in session, and full-time during official school breaks. While you do not need USCIS authorization, you must obtain approval from your DSO before starting work.
- M-1 Students: Strictly prohibited by federal regulations from engaging in any on-campus employment during their course of study.
Off-Campus Employment
- F-1 Students: Generally not eligible for off-campus employment during their first academic year. After one full academic year, students may apply for off-campus employment under specific categories such as Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), or Severe Economic Hardship. CPT requires DSO authorization; OPT and Economic Hardship require both DSO recommendation and an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) from USCIS.
- M-1 Students: Cannot work off-campus during their studies. M-1 students are only eligible for practical training after completing their program, which requires an EAD from USCIS.
